Cybersecurity in St. Louis

Security built for how St. Louis does business

St. Louis has an unusual mix of high-security industries. Military aircraft are built near Lambert airport, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has its new western campus north of downtown, and Scott Air Force Base in the Metro East hosts U.S. Transportation Command. Around them are major health systems and Washington University’s medical campus, plant science and agtech companies in Creve Coeur and the Cortex district, and financial and wealth management firms headquartered in Clayton and beyond.

Because the metro spans Missouri and Illinois, many businesses here answer to two states’ laws as well as to their federal customers. StrikeProof helps St. Louis companies keep it manageable: penetration testing that shows where attackers could get in, 24/7 SOC monitoring, readiness for CMMC, HIPAA and the rest, and incident response the moment something looks wrong.

The local threat landscape

What St. Louis businesses are up against

Attackers go where the money and the data are. In the St. Louis region, these are the threats we see shaped by the local economy.

Targeting of defense and geospatial suppliers

Companies supporting aircraft programs, NGA and the commands at Scott hold data foreign intelligence services want, and smaller suppliers are often the easiest way in.

Theft of agricultural research

Seed genetics, crop science and plant research represent years of investment, and both competitors and state-backed groups have targeted them.

Advisor and client account fraud

Wealth managers and their clients are targeted with spoofed emails and account takeovers designed to redirect withdrawals and transfers.

2 states
Breach and privacy law in Missouri

Two states’ rules for one metro

Missouri requires businesses to notify affected residents without unreasonable delay, and to notify the Attorney General and the consumer reporting agencies when more than 1,000 residents are affected; the Attorney General enforces the law, with civil penalties for violations. Across the river, Illinois law protects residents of the Metro East: it requires breach notice in the most expedient time possible, notice to its Attorney General when more than 500 Illinois residents are affected, and, under the Biometric Information Privacy Act, written consent before collecting fingerprints or face scans, with a private right of action. Fingerprint time clocks on the Illinois side need particular care.

St. Louis FAQ

Cybersecurity in St. Louis: common questions

We have employees in Illinois. Does BIPA really apply to a time clock?
It can. If your clocks scan fingerprints, hands or faces of Illinois workers, BIPA’s notice, consent and retention rules may apply, and individuals can sue for violations. Your attorney should review your setup; we can help you document where biometric data is stored and how it’s secured.
We’re a small supplier to a major aerospace prime. Where do we start on CMMC?
By finding out exactly which data you receive under your contracts and where it lives. That scoping decides which CMMC level applies and how big the job is. We then help you implement the NIST SP 800-171 controls and prepare for assessment by an authorized assessor.
We think we’ve been breached. How fast can you help a St. Louis business?
Call our 24/7 incident response line at +1 (253) 448-3030. We’re remote-first, so we begin containment and forensics over secure remote access within minutes of your call, with no waiting for someone to drive to your office.
Do you offer penetration testing for St. Louis companies?
Yes. We test external and internal networks, web applications, cloud environments and your people (phishing), and deliver a prioritized report your team can act on, followed by a retest once fixes are in.
Does it matter that StrikeProof isn’t based in St. Louis?
Not for the work we do. Monitoring, testing, compliance and incident response are all delivered over secure remote connections, so a business in the St. Louis region gets the same team, the same speed and the same price as one next door to our Tacoma headquarters.
